BIT Class Expectations

The faculty wishes you well in your academic endeavors and challenges you to enhance yourself with skills that will last a lifetime.  In our environment of interdisciplinary, facilitative teaching, cooperation is essential, and we have outlined our expectations as follows.

FBLA Membership

Future Business Leaders of America is a co-curricular student organization that fosters growth and leadership potential.  All students are expected to participate in classroom activities and are encouraged to attend regional conferences.  State and national conference attendance is based on competitive achievement.

Respect

Each Business & Information Technology student is expected to be a team player, developing  respect for self, classmates, faculty and staff, school guests, and administrators.  Kindness, caring, and honesty are of utmost importance.

Behavior

Achieving "professional" demeanor is based on possessing a good attitude toward learning, paying attention to detailed directions, asking questions that are beneficial to understanding, and remaining seated and quietly engaged in work.  Distracting attention or disturbing the learning of peers is unacceptable and will show cause to invoke new seating assignment, detention, parental contact, or office referral.

Honor Code

Integrity is an extremely valued characteristic in today's world.  All work is expected to be the result of personal development and/or established teamwork.  Honest effort, cited references, paraphrased documents, and credit where credit is due are required.  Efficient use of time is stressed to promote productivity.

Supplies

An electronic notebook will be kept on the hard drive of the iBook and/or on the PERSONAL folder on the server necessitating accessibility of the individual's laptop during class.  A hard copy notebook may also be used for backup.

Grading

Assessment will be announced via the classroom or the computer; however, such assignments will be made in advance, so students will be expected to take tests on the appropriate day or the make up work immediately upon return.3

The majority of assessment will be "on screen" or will be from the student drop box.  Quizzes, applications, and daily graded work count less than tests and projects; however, all are important to your overall grade.  Assignments must be submitted in a timely fashion to attain full credit; failure to submit an assignment will be recorded as a zero.  Homework and extra credit activities will be assigned by the teacher.

E-mail

E-mail usage is permitted only in conjunction with class assignments.  Unauthorized use will result in detention.

Rules & Regulations

Rules concerning food and drink (including water) are strictly adhered to due to the vulnerability of the equipment.  Students who drink or eat in the classroom/lab will receive a detention.

Rules concerning the dress code (including hats and provocative clothing) will be strictly enforced to promote a professional environment conducive to learning.

Attendance/Tardiness

Punctuality is another sought-after characteristic in industry.  School policies regarding tardies, absences, makeup work and exam exemptions will be followed.  Three emergency restroom passes per semester will be allowed without penalty.  Each additional restroom/telephone/miscellaneous pass will be counted as a tardy regardless of time taken (beginning, middle, end of class).  Three tardies will count as one class absence and result in detention.    Seniors--make sure you protect your exam exemption privileges.

Help/Questions/Concerns

Computer labs and classrooms open by 8:00 a.m. each morning.  Teacher assistance can be arranged during this time.  Personal issues should be discussed outside of class.  Appointment times are posted on the door of each classroom.
