CALCULATOR INFORMATION for 2007 - 2008
|
Which calculator should you buy? With ever changing technology, more advanced graphing calculators are being designed. Some such calculators are permitted for use in our classrooms and some are not. In an effort to be more consistent within our department, as well as with testing requirements, the DRHS Math Team encourages you to read the following suggestions before making a purchase. |
New for the 2007 - 2008 school year: All high school students will have the CASIO 9860 graphing calculator software on their laptops. Start >> HCPS Software >> CASIO >> CASIO 9860
•Math students who plan to take courses above the Algebra 2 level should seriously consider purchasing one of the Texas Instruments graphing calculators: TI-83, TI-84 or TI-89. If a student plans to eventually take Calculus, then he or she might want a TI-89. The TI-89, however, will only be permitted in Math Analysis, AP Statistics and Calculus. The TI-83 and TI-84 series will be permitted in all math classes.
•A note about the TI-89: Due to its overly sophisticated functions the TI-89 is permitted on the AP exams, but is not permitted on SOL or ACT tests. Thus, its use is not permitted in Algebra 2 or below.
To order calculators online, we have found School Mart to have the best prices.
Other sources to consider include Staples, Walmart, Office Max and eBay.
I found a great deal for a "like new" TI-89 on Amazon.
