Capital One Scholarship Deadline

The deadline for the Capital One Scholarship has been extended.  Completed applications are now due to Mrs. Kaplan by Friday, February 24th @ 4:00.


Free Financial Aid Seminar
This seminar is hosted by ITT Technical Institute for any students who are interested in learning more about the FAFSA form and how to obtain a PIN.

Teen Job Symposium

  This is a regional project designed to assist students in learning the skills needed to get a job and also provide them with the opportunity to network with various vendors who offer employment, volunteer experience and internships.

AP Open House
May 2, 2012

AP Teachers will share the curriculum, textbooks, summer work, and course expectations. Also, we will explain to parents about the AP Commitment form that must be returned with the CRRS form and the NEW County requirement to remain in the class until October 15, 2013.


NHS Peer Tutoring

A student who needs tutoring should complete a Tutor Request Form and return it to room 234 and pick up a pass to go to either Mrs. Sower's room (234) or Ms. Divina’s room (230) during extended study on the requested date – there will be a tutor waiting for you!

Common Black College Application

VCU SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY

Dental Career Exploration workshop. Come and learn in this two week, non residential program for those who are interested in exploring a career in dentistry. The program is free and lunch is provided. It is geared toward 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Interested students are encouraged to visit their high school counselor and sumbit an application by April 27, 2012 at www.dhsd.vcu.edu/index/html. Essay Contest/Scholarship Opportunity

Century 21 is sponsoring an essay contest for seniors.  The winner will receive a $500 scholarship. 
The topic is "What I will miss most about home."

Career Exploration Hands On Experiences

Exploring offers career exploration programs for young men and women ages 14-21.  Exploring participants join a "post" based on their career interests and gain hands on experience and career insight from professionals in their chosen field.  Activities vary by post but can include: job training, field trips, job shadowing, mentoring, group scenarios, case studies, "mock" practice job situations, real experiences, and more

Please visit this www.exploringva.org if you are looking to experience different careers before they decide which is for them. Students can go on and learn about all the different posts that are in the area.


ATTENTION Student-Athletes:

If you plan to play intercollegiate sports in college, you MUST register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. When registering you will be asked to pay a fee and have your official transcript sent to the NCAA Center. When registering for the SAT or ACT you must use the NCAA Eligibility Center code # 9999. This will ensure that your test scores go directly to the Center. Student-Athletes who do not use 9999 will need to pay to have your scores sent later in the process. The Eligibility Center CANNOT accept ACT or SAT scores from your Deep Run HS transcripts.


College and Financial Assistance

 
GRASP and the Richmond Public Library are are offering free, confidential college financial aid assistance to families and students. A GRASP advisor will help you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as answer other questions you may have about funding post-secondary education. Richmond Main Public Library --  Mondays and Wednesdays 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.  Call 804-646-7223 for an appointment.

ATTENTION DRIVER’S EDUCATION STUDENTS
 
A prerequisite to Driver's Ed is a learner’s permit. You MUST have your learner’s permit in hand when you enter the Driver’s Education class (no exceptions).

The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill is a program designed to help students pay for college after their tour in the Navy. Please view the flyer for more information. Navy ROTC Scholarships
 
You can earn up to $180,000 for tuition, books, and other fees. After you graduate college, you will start your career as a Naval Officer. Please view the flyer for more information. Please also visit the websitehttps://www.nrotc.navy.mil for all new applicants and re-applying applicants.
NHS Tutoring
 
If you have students who need help in science, math, English, history, or foreign language and would like a Peer Tutor, NHS tutoring has begun. Tutoring takes place during extended study. Math and Science is in Room 234 and History, English, and Foreign Language is in room 230. Ask your teacher for a pass!

*****Seniors*****
 
College enrollment REQUIRES proof of immunizations.  Please begin gathering immunization records from your physician to ensure you have the proper documents for Freshman Orientation.  All of these forms should be gathered BEFORE you graduate.  Please contact the School Nurse if your doctor does not have these records before the end of the school year.   
Full Circle Grief Center
 
is offering grief counseling groups. These groups will be offered for children ages 3-18 as well as their parents/primary caregivers. Groups are available for children/adolescents who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, caregiver, or other significant person. All groups are offered at no charge to the families.
