Counseling Services Provided:
Classroom Guidance:
Mrs. Parker presents lessons in every classroom (K-5) each month that teach skills such as conflict resolution, bully proofing, SOL preparation, study skills and test-taking strategies, appreciating diversity, character education, social skills and career exploration.
Individual Counseling:
Short-term individual counseling is available to students at the request of parents/guardians, students, and teachers to meet the needs of all students expressing difficulties dealing with academic achievement, personal concerns, or normal developmental tasks. When a structured series of individual counseling sessions is deemed appropriate, parental permission is requested and parental reinforcement of concepts introduced in counseling sessions is encouraged.
Small Group Counseling:
Group counseling is available to all students and may be requested by students, parents/guardians or teachers. Groups last about 6 weeks and provide students the opportunity to work with and receive support from peers who share similar challenges. Parental permission letters will be sent home prior to group participation. Some of the counseling groups that will be available this year include friendship and self-esteem, anger management, separation and divorce, grief & loss, study skills, and social skills.
