CREATING CHARACTERS

Characters are essential to the functioning of any good short story.  Characters should be REAL, and essentially, they are human beings without bodies.  Every character should have an inner life even though you don't always show this through writing.  The following are good aspects of characterization:

1.  Names
2.  Physical appearance
3.  Personal History
4.  What other people say about them
5.  Their habits
6.  Their thoughts
7.  How they react in specific situations

You will develop fully your characters in your short story.  Think about your characters' names, physical appearance, personal history, habits, thoughts, etc.  Then, write character sketches of each character in your story / chapter.
