Please be prepared to read one poem you have written.
Poet laureates will be named and awarded.
Refreshments will be provided.
You will be writing poems to
be submitted to our poetry anthology. Each student will write a total
of FOUR
poems to be submitted. You should turn in TWO copies
of the poem you would like to publish in our anthology.
This should be typed (12 pt. font) in whatever style
font you would like. You may also submit artwork to
accompany your poem.
This assignment (the four poems,
with a copy of one of them) will be due on Wednesday, April 9th.
You must
have at least one literary example: metaphor, simile,
symbol, alliteration, assonance, personification, hyperbole, etc.
Aside from some of the poetry
we will write in class, you may consider the following topics as you write:

this place in a poem using imagery.
2. Write a free verse poem about a meaningful experience.
3. Write a poem about what matters to you most.
4. Write a poem about an experience using sensory
imagery.
5. Write a poem describing something. Don't
say what you are describing.
6. Write a poem using similes and metaphors, describing
a feeling.
7. Write a poem on how yellow might smell, a sandwich
sounds, or what noise feels like.
8. Write a poem using personification. Personify
fear, joy, jealousy, fun, time, nature, or death.
9. Write a poem using symbolism.
10. Write a poem that tells a story.
11. Describe your life from the point of view of
an item of clothing. Write a poem about it.

different ideas.
14. Choose a person in your family or someone you
know well and create a portrait with words.
