The DRHS Boy’s soccer program, under the guidance of Varsity Head Coach Martin Brooks, Assistant Coaches Blake Beach, Mike Guyer, Andy Carry, and Tomas Coplan, as well as the former head coach and now academy consultant Steve Chapman, will conduct a soccer techniques and tactics academy Feb.28th and Mar.1st , at Deep Run High School.

Boys and girls will originally be sorted by age, but will later be re-grouped by skill level. Players will receive quality instruction from the DRSA staff and by the DRHS Varsity soccer players. Over the course of academy, players will be instructed on attacking, defending, passing, receiving, and goal scoring. We strive to provide an 8:1 player to coach ratio, thus ensuring excellent opportunity for technical feedback to every participant.

Martin Brooks: Boys Varsity Head Coach

Coach Brooks brings a wealth of knowledge to the Deep Run Soccer program, having coached and played professionally for a variety of European clubs throughout his career. Additionally, Martin Brooks holds a UEFA “A” coaching license.

Over the past three years, Martin Brooks has been the head coach of the Boys’ Junior Varsity squad, earning an overall coaching record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws. Under his guidance, the junior varsity squad has outscored their opponents by an overwhelming 137 goals to just 5 goals

Academy Schedule
Athletes will be grouped by technical ability and will be trained in the progressive method of coaching. Each training session will address technical and tactical topics. The schedule for these sessions is listed below.

1:40 pm – 2:00 pm
Registration

2:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Technical warm-up, Footablility Training, and stretching

2:35 pm – 3:05 pm
1 vs 1 attacking – defending techniques

3:10 pm – 3:50 pm
Position specific tactical training: Finishing, Crossing, Defending, Midfield Possession.

4:00 pm – 4:45pm
Small-sided games ( 7 vs 7)

4:45 pm – 5:00 pm
Cool-down, Coaches’ summary.

Training Attire: This is an outside event, dress appropriately for the weather. Wearing layers is highly recommended. Shin guards are required, and soccer cleats are recommended. Please bring your soccer ball labeled clearly with your first and last name.
