This following assignment is the first assignment for the year
for Advanced Art

knowledge of the Appleworks Drawing and Painting programs. They will also begin
their year feeling ownership of the art program, as these posters will be used
in the art classroom as examples and reinforcements throughout the year

your choice. Only one name per topic.
1. Eat and drink in the cafeteria only. Do you want to eat art funk? _____________
2. Pencils and pens are like clothes. Never leave home without them.__________

a poster for each topic. You may change the words in the topic, but do not change
the idea. You may use clip art, just this once. Attached is an example. Use at
least 6 different tools and text. Manipulate the text by going under the text
heading and using different fonts, sizes, colors and styles. Please place in
my drop box.
Teenagers
fall prey to savvy marketing strategies every single day. In this project,
students are asked to “sell” an imaginary product with a nonsensical
name. Students are asked to answer the following questions:
1. What is the product’s function?
2. What are the benefits of the product?
3. What are the features? Describe the color, size, etc.
4. Who is your audience?
5. Where will you advertise your product?
6. Where will you sell you product?
Students are required to use their imaginiations for the function of the product.
A silly, unrealistic purpose is encouraged. For example, if the student has been
given a “widget” as their product, they might answer question #1, “A
widget is a type of cheese that puts your hair into a ponytail when you eat it.”
Once these questions
are answered, students will then create a marketing flyer for their product.
On the flyer, students must include:
1. The function of the product.
2. The benefits of choosing this particular product.
3. The price of this product.
4. Where you can get this product.
Students will present their flyers to the class at the end of the project.SOLS:

In the French class they have developed trifold brochures for the various parts of France. I would present the draw program and than have them develop a travel poster.
The library has a partnership wirh the 8th grade Health & PE classes. They do research on a health topic. A product of that research could be a poster related to their topic, such as anti-drug, heath safety, disease awareness, etc.
The programs would offer a great alternative to the usual visual for a book report.
In English classes, I work with
many classes doing poetry research. They could use either the paint or
draw program
to present
a visual
interprtation
of their
favorite poem.
The draw program would be a good alternative way to demonstrate student
understanding of vocabulary words. This would be especially great for the
kinesthetic learner
or special education student.
Directions for lesson on body parts.

and then write a sentence using the passé composé. Follow the

Using the Apple Works Draw program, create a poster that illustrates an interesting
facts about a dinosaur.
Choose something about your dinosaur that is different or intriguing. Something
that most people don’t know.
Your poster must fill one entire draw page. You may fill this space as creatively
as you wish. You should include text, pictures, backgrounds, etc.
You may use the clipart found within the apple works program, use the “search” feature
within the apple works clippings, or search the web yourself.
If you have any questions about how to use any of the DRAW features......ASK!!!!!
Create a memorable timeline book to help students to remember specific dates and relate them to an image that they have created.
Select your favorite song, and draw your interpretation of what this song
is trying to express. Use the Appleworks paint and draw to express yourself.
Write music notation using Appleworks Draw Program. Draw
the following music notation:
Staff; Whole Note, Half Note, Quarter Note, Eighth Note
Activity:
What are your favorite things? Show me what your favorite things are by creating
an appleworks drawing.
1. Write a title for your page.
2. Find pictures of your favorite things and paste them onto the drawing page.
3. Pick a font for each favorite thing and write the name of it.
4. Make your page creative by changing the style of your letters and using different
colors.
Sharing:
Stand up in front of class and show your printed drawing page. Tell us about
your drawing page.
The students will use the Appleworks Draw program, choose
at least three different animal pictures from clipart and arrange them on a
page. They will have to leave an open text box taking up atleast half of the
page and use their imagination to write a story about the animals.
The students will be demonstrating the use of the different tools in the drawing
program, as well as incorporating the English SOL’s for writing.
