Online Resources for Kids
These websites are the librarian's favorites for basic online resources. 
There are many more, but this is a great place to start!

NOTE:  Google is not allowed for student use in the elementary schools - and is not recommended for home use either!  This site is intended for adult use - and definitely not designed for student research.

NetTrekker is the preferred search engine HCPS students.  It is leveled for elementary, middle and high school students.  It also has a wonderful read-aloud feature that can assist struggling readers.  Students are introduced to this website in school.  Ask your librarian if you need assistance.

Fact Monster features an almanac, atlas, dictionary and encyclopedia especially for kids -- plus games and a homework help center. 

http://www.kidsclick.org
KidsClick! is a search engine created for kids by librarians. Searchable by subject, reading level and degree of picture content.
Grolier Online Kids

Grolier Online Kids is an encyclopedia with a variety of levels and topics. The best encyclopedia volume for elementary students New Book of Knowledge, but all are appropriate for student use.

Encyclopedia Britannica

Encyclopedia Britannica is another online encyclopedia.  It has some similarities to Grolier, but try both for comparisons!
