Finding the Area of a Rhombus

READ the instruction below and INTERACT with the GeoGebra applet on the right.

  1. Move the points d and D on the sliders, to make a new rhombus. Notice the change in area.

  2. What is the area of the square? What is the area of the rhombus? How do they compare?

  3. Set d to 2 and D to 5, what is the area of the rhombus? Now reverse their values, what is the area of the rhombus?

  4. What is the relationship between the areas of the square and the rhombus?

  5. Using this information, what would be a formula for finding the area of a rhombus? Test your formula using the applet.
