Discovering a Formula for the Slope of a Line (WS 7)
Below you can see a line and its corresponding linear
equation.
Note: Write down all your answers on a sheet of paper.
 Find a way to calculate the slope m of the
line.
(a) Use the coordinates of points X_{1}
and X_{2}
to calculate the side lengths of the
slope triangle. Write down your assumption.
(b) Check your assumption for at least 3 different positions of the
points X_{1}
and X_{2}
as
well as for 2 different values of slider m.
 Write down your formula for the slope m in a
more
abstract way. Use the general coordinates X_{1} = (x_{1},
y_{1}) and X_{2} = (x_{2},
y_{2}) in your formula.
