## Lesson 11-1: Polar Coordinate Plane

## Objective:

The student will be able to name and locate points in polar coordinates and convert points between polar and rectangular form.

1. Drag point P and compare the cartesian and polar forms of the coordinates.
2. Drag point P until the Polar Coordinates are (6, 60°). What are the Cartesian Coordinates? Drag P to (6, 120°) and (6, 240°) too. Can you think of a formula to calculate x and y from r and theta?
3. Drag point P until the Cartesian Coordinates are (4, 4). What are the Polar Coordinates? Drag P to (-4, 4) and (-4, -4) too.Can you think of a formula to calculate r and theta from x and y?
