My name is Nelly Neon, and I was found in liquefied air,

Discovered by Sir William Ramsey and Morris M. Travers, quite a fine pair.

They found me in 1898,

And now it’s amazing what I can create.

I am put into lights that can be made into signs,

And I advertise for businesses that are quite fine.

I am used to inform you of “open” or “closed,”

Or light up somebody’s room while they dozed.

I can even be used to decorate your house,

When it comes time to pull out your holiday blouse.

And if you need to keep something super cold,

I can be a cryogenic refrigerant; at least, that’s what I’m told.
