Being potassium sure is dirty work!  A lot of the time I get rubbed into dirt or eaten!  I work as a major nutrient and as a fertilizer.  If you ever want to find me just look in some dirt.  Farmers love me because I work so well.  I can also be found in lots of foods - including bananas!  I also work full time as part of the earth’s crust.

I have a lot of stuff to do - I know!  But in my spare time I write poems.  Here is a poem I wrote about myself.

Potassium

I love being sliced,

But easily get cut thin.

I boil, I melt,
And the process goes on again and again.

I am just a solid, so normal am I,

Though I help fertilizer touch the sky!

I’m part of the earth’s crust,

2.4 percent to be exact!

Very important, but I must compact,

For though I am obviously the brightest,

I’m also the second lightest!

Here’s my favorite song, “The Second Lightest Element in the World”.  It’s a remake from 13, the musical.  My friend Brian Bromine wrote it for me.  He’s so funny.  My friend Lindsey is singing it; she helped with the lyrics - which of course are all about me!  Some things didn’t make perfect sense - like how I would always be a solid if temperature didn’t change - she means at room temperature.  But just go along, the lyrics are really fun.
