A Little About Me

HERE’S A POEM:


Zirconium is quite great

Don’t let nobody tell you that I ain’t 1st rate

Some of the other elements are just plain pathetic

But they say that I’m extremely magnetic

I am pretty old

But I’m still just as bold (just look at me when I’m made into jewels)

When people see me they shout, “WooHoo!”

I’m used in lights and vacuum tubes too

Zirconium is my name

I put all other elements to shame


My Job!

    I’m pretty big in the chemical industry. I’m used “extensively when corrosive agents are employed.” Also, I’m used as a getter in vacuum tubes, as an alloying agent in steel, in photoflash bulbs, in surgical appliances, lamp filaments, and many others. I’m also used in lotion for poison ivy, as a very powerful magnet, and as a gem. So, as you can see, I’m an extremely useful element. Think of how many people would suffer longer with poison ivy without me!
