Mrs. Bowles’ Class Website

Welcome to second grade!  I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work with you and your child.  We have a fun and exciting year ahead of us.  I am sure you have questions about our routine and I am hoping this information page will help to answer many of them.

Your child will have a mid-morning snack on a daily basis.  Please send your child to school with a small snack (i.e. crackers, fruit, fruit snacks, pretzels, vegetables, etc.).  Please do not send juice boxes for snack.  Your child may keep a water bottle on his or her desk throughout the day and will be able to drink this with the snack.

Your child will be assigned homework Monday through Thursday of each week.  Homework typically consists of math, spelling, and fifteen minutes of oral reading, although it is not limited to these areas.  Students will copy homework assignments each day into their assignment book.

Graded papers will be sent on Fridays in the blue plastic communication folder.  These papers will have a stamp that requests for your signature.  Please look over the papers with your child, sign, and send the entire packet of graded papers back to school on Monday.  I will hold all graded materials until the end of the year.  If you have questions or comments about your child's work, please feel free to contact me.

My behavior management program is based on positive reinforcement.  As I notice a cooperative table of four demonstrating good classroom behavior, I will reward that table with a “Bowles Buck”.  At the end of the day each group will add up the total number of Bowles Bucks that they received.  This total will then be added to the white board.  On Fridays, the group that has the most money for the week will receive a small reward from the treasure chest.  These rewards are inexpensive goodies from places like the dollar store (i.e. candy, glasses, Silly Putty, small games) or Happy Meal toys.  Donations are appreciated, but certainly not necessary.

I hope that this information has answered some of the questions you might have.  I look forward to working with you and your child this year!  If you have any questions you may email me at wlbowles@henrico.k12.va.us.
