Honest Abe

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States.  His nickname was “Honest Abe” because he was famous for telling the truth.1  Even though he was very poor and was born in a log cabin in Kentucky, he taught himself how to read and grew up to become our president. 2 At that time, the nation was divided over the issue of slavery. 4  Lincoln helped solve this problem by freeing all of the African American slaves. 3
